Volunteering

Volunteer work can have a tangible impact on nature conservation projects, not only in terms of the quantity of labor but also for its role in creating social involvement and cooperation.

​

VERDE, also formed by volunteers, sees environmental volunteering as one of its main tools for change. It provides all safety and training conditions to the volunteers who join us.

​

You can volunteer in several ways:

VERDE Outdoor Club

VERDE Outdoor Club it’s VERDE’s outdoor activities group, an open and informal space dedicated to nature, community and environmental action. The gatherings take place two times a month, with nature activities that end with a community picnic.

Schedules:

  • Wednesday: 14h30 - 17h

  • Sunday: 9h30 - 12h30

  • Environmental volunteering

  • Interpretative hikings

  • Ecological restoration

  • Themed workshops

  • Lots of socializing along the way

Corporate Volunteering

At VERDE we organize dedicated volunteering days for groups of employees from companies or other partner organizations. We design custom teambuilding events which include activities of ecological restoration and that benefit biodiversity.

Long-term Volunteering

For an immersive experience around nature conservation, VERDE created means to host, simultaneously, up to 4 long-term volunteers. With a minimum period of 4 weeks, you can stay for free in Lousada, in a shared rooms apartment, while actively participating in VERDE’s projects and field tasks.

When and where?

  • In Lousada, throughout the year, Mondays to Fridays, from 9am to 5pm.

 

What are the activities?

Some of the activities might be:

  • Green Giants and other local biodiversity essential natural structures characterization and monitorization;

  • Habitat restoration;

  • Environmental education activities support;

Curriculum projects or Theses

Would you like to develop your curriculum project or thesis with VERDE? Challenge us!

 

At VERDE we have already welcomed 8 interns and either national and international students from the most diverse fields of knowledge.

​

We can accommodate you at our apartment in Lousada, dedicated to volunteers, while you develop your project.

In 2025:

  • We have already counted with 407 volunteers that devoted 3710 hours of work;

  • We organized 7 VERDE Days where we gathered more than 200 participants;

  • We accommodated 10 long-term volunteers from 4 different nationalities;

  • We developed 9 corporate volunteer activities with a total of 190 participants.
